Showing off my pictures :) Maybe I can help others!
« on: May 29, 2012, 11:37:22 PM »
For ages now I have been pulling my hair out trying to get a decent pic of my jewellery. I have the light tent, the daylight bulbs etc.  It has stopped me getting much into my new Etsy shop because I just couldn't get a pic that I thought would encourage people to buy things.

Its one of the main rules of selling your jewellery isn't it - get good photos?

Then I managed to get a few beads with OK photographs but not jewellery. Well, I am pleased to say today I managed a few pics that I am really proud of and I'm hoping this will encourage someone to get their wallets out!!

Here's the pics:

I had read my camera manual, read tutorials on taking pics and I still couldn't crack it. I have discovered, for me, that I need to play around with:

* the position of the lights
* the zoom in the right position (so that photos don't come out too dark/light)
* Balancing the colours in the pic, sometimes changing the background makes all the difference

Maybe this will help someone else who is having problems with pics :)

Excellent tips, excellent photos and excellent polymer creation!

I would add to it that finding where your camera's white balance setting can really help. Also, if you have a mode where you can overide the camera's exposure settings that can help too. I always have to up the exposure on my camera to get the photos to come anywhere near right.

Great photos!  I'm glad you've got the photo thing sorted out.  I love the necklace.  I bought that puzzle cookie cutter 2 weeks, but haven't used it yet.  I love what you've done with it.

Mel  :)

Thanks for adding those tips Emma.

I usually use exposure +1 and set my white balance to cloudy (I use a photgraphy tent) as this seems to give the most accurate colour.

MelMcG: I've had that cutter for several years and it is probably my most popular pendant shape! Well worth it.

Isn't Photoshop really pricey though?

Photoshop Elements is a cut down version but has everything needed  - not that expensive.

I think there are free photoeditting softwares out there too, but I've always tended to use photoshop since it's what I know.
