Need your help!
« on: September 27, 2011, 03:29:20 PM »
I've bought some wooden "dolls" ,  to make some Babushka's....But how can I cover them without getting airbubbles? I have had the wood in the oven first and then when they cooled down  covered them with scrapclay both trying with and without liqiud clay as "glue". They get airbubbles even if I'm carefull when covering! I could make my own little dolls but now that I bought them I want to use them! Please help me!

Are you leaving part of the wood uncovered for air / steam to escape?

I used to cover lots of wooden picture frames and found that painting them first with a coat of PVA glue made a good seal to prevent moisture or chemicals in the wood coming out. But I also always left the back of the frame uncovered too, so any air could escape that way, which probably helped a lot.

Maybe you could try covering with liquid clay first and baking this hard first before adding any clay?

Hope you get it sorted out.
