Beads and Jewellery Showcase - Sept/Oct 2017
« on: September 26, 2017, 08:02:04 AM »
Hi everyone.

I was just thinking it's a shame this forum has got a little quiet, especially considering we have some new members.  So thought I'd post a double month in the showcase.

I need to sort some pics out as I've been experimenting with alcohol inks on baked clay as well as the liquid clay + heat gun (scary) technique.

So show us your makes this dreary autumn day :)

Eek...I had one try with the Kato liquid and heat gun some time ago, but I only have a craft heat gun - it sort of worked but seemed rather a palaver!  Good luck!

Haven't made much recently...I'll see if I posted the last lot.

It is a pity it's quiet.  The forum is on the whole better than fb for asking questions and getting sensible replies  ::)

I made three different types of transfer for a HOP facebook challenge - a cuff using a napkin, a not-very-successful Lisa Pavelka waterslide transfer (I find them really tricky to use...they split and wrinkle, but it was suggested I try them on a baked surface another time) and lastly a liquid clay transfer.

Love them all, particularly the way the image seems to pop on the last pendant.

I need to add a magnetic fastening to my napkin transfer cuff.  The heat from your skin does makes them pretty malleable and despite the fact it quite thick, it still pulls apart.

I will take a photo of my heat gun experiment.  Proper heat gun.  Boys toys :)

Thank you.  I like the last one best  :)

My cuffs are really flexible and definitely need a clasp, though the magnetic ones do sometimes come undone.  I can't manage anything more secure though, and don't like hook type ones because they catch on clothes!

Looking forward to seeing the heat gun experiment....I can't see myself using one though!

Thanks for starting the thread Claire and Carrie - what gorgeous pieces. I love the last one especially, which is odd for me as I am so not into floral motifs usually, but that really sings...

And yes the forum is quiet these days - much blame for that can be with me as I am neglecting it terribly, I am sorry. I think the immediacy of facebook and various other outlets these days has rended many a forum as almost obsolete really.

Has the forum been down Emma?  It's been 'page not found' for me for a couple of days!

Here is one of the heat gun experiments.

First layer of just liquid clay, then an embellishment of mica and liquid clay mixed.  Think I put too much mica in, and then you should have seen the mess I made everywhere with the stuff.

I apologise for the photo, I was trying to get an angle that showed the shine and failed on everything else.  including focus.  Oh well, you get the idea :)

I was getting "....doesn't exist"    :-\    Glad it's back but sad it's quiet.

I like experiments, Claire!

Here is a pendant and a pair of earrings I made recently, after a workshop with Melanie West on translucent caning.
The earrings I planned to be mis-matched.  Made from the scrap ends of canes, it turned out I had no choice.  And one of the black and white dividing lines on the pendant is not straight.  But still really pleased with the results.

Thanks Emma for sending the Cernit translucent clay so quickly.  So well packaged I had trouble getting in.  Have you any sellotape left.
