Hello!
« on: December 07, 2015, 05:02:26 PM »
Hi all!

I am very happy to join the forum :) I started playing with clay quite recently - it has been less than a year - after first getting to know soft clay for kids. I have a strong preference for jewels made of big, curved tiles with veneers made of extruded clay, or mokume gane. I am struggling mostly with the string channels in the curves :)

Looking forward to some experience sharing!

Greetings from Sofia, Bulgaria,

Svetunka

Hi Svetunka,

Welcome to the forum  :)

If you haven't seen them already, both Melanie Muir's Rock Cuffs tutorial and Helen Breil's Surface Techniques tutorial talk about getting channels in pieces for stringing.

Hope to see some of your work soon.

Welcome to the forum Svetunka!

Hopefully you'll get some advice from everyone about forming the channels.

It isn't a technique I have done much myself. I know that several years ago, many clayers would use rubber cord where they want the channel, then pull the rubber cord out after baking the clay.
