I have experimented with alcohol inks, and one technique I used when I wanted more control over the ink (i.e. how much the colors blended with each other) included some or all of the following:
Apply the ink to baked clay.
Apply in layers, using colors in areas where you might want some blending on the same layer.
Use PYM (or similar) very lightly between layers to seal.
Use alcohol in a very fine spray to pattern or blend.
If you don't like what you see, with baked clay, you can use alcohol to remove and start over.
