Thanks Shelley

And yes, so far the woofy licks are working a treat. Today is already shaping up to be an interesting day!

All the best of positive vibes to you Emma,
My mum won't let us do anything to the house to keep it in good repair either. We are having to try doing things without telling her, not easy. So I know some of what you've been through. But nothing like it all.
I do hope things are beginning to turn the corner for you.
Hope it all works out soon.

Well chaps

Things are moving slowly forward for your Glorious Leader.

We've made it through Probate and all the other hoopla, found a buyer for our place and had an offer accepted on a new house down by the sea in West Sussex. Now just waiting for all the solicitors to do their thing and hope no spanners are thrown in the works anywhere! So keep those vibes coming guys, they are obviously working!

Currently looking for removalers and trying to de-clutter. Given that MIL kept literally every card and letter sent to her etc since the 50s this is no small task. Also, given that each item is quite painful for DH to deal with as he is still mourning, it is really falling to me to do the lion's share of sorting out her things. Hence very absent Emma!

I spent a whole day this week just sorting through her artwork for example. My MIL was a very talented artist. Actually I don't think she, or anyone else around her, really appreciated just how talented she was. But yet, one cannot keep every sketch, every prep study and doodle she did since 1951! So working out what to keep and what to let go was quite a task. Endless portraits - but of who? Are they family members or just from a photo? A mix of the two really. Stunning fashion drawings - I wonder, did she ever sew the dresses she was designing? I've sorted out quite a pile of her work to frame for the new place. Much as I disliked her and the trouble she caused for me, she is still DH's mum and I think he will in time appreciate keeping her memory alive in that way.

I've not even started on the photos yet. You name it - it got photographed. Heaven help us. I am starting to think the only reason this house had subsidence in the first place was all the stuff stored in here. I mean, we really shouldn't be on first name terms with all the people that work at the dump. That isn't normal is it?

But onwards and upwards

Emma  :)

You sound like my mum growing up - every time I turned my back she would be packing up my stuff.

more than once I had to buy back my treasured fave stuffed animals from a jumble sale, but she got them in the end  >:(

I know what you mean Emma.

My step-mother gave my electronic battleships game to a jumble sale without telling me.  I looked for it for ages  :(

Would you throw away her favourite teddy though?

My mother was simply evil I tell you. Evil!

No i would not, she doesen´t have one :) I would never throw away her Lego Friends though, that is her favorite toys. But she is a little bit of a horder so to her everything is "her favorite" even wrinkled up paper and broken boxes.....but those i do trow away....

My grandmother was evil.......

I just don´t have an emotional attachment to stuff, not my own either. I have one thing precious to me and that is a 2 min film of when my girl met her brother för the first time. She was only 1,8 y old but she proclaimed her love for him and we got it on "tape" . She still loves him just as much.

My clay stash is precious but it can be replaced.

I hope you get trhru the MIL stuff soon. If i was closer i would come and help you.....love throwing away stuff.....

My step mother was evil too.

I got my revenge though when she broke her arm hitting me  :o
