My first attempts - part 2
« on: February 08, 2015, 11:39:58 PM »
This is the result from day 2 of playing with clay - as before, so much to learn so any pointers gratefully received!

Wonderful!

I like both of those very much.

What are you baking on out of interest? Flat pendants can be made and baked direct on small ceramic tiles, which keep them nice and flat in the baking process. Downside to this is the clay goes a little uneven and shiny on the back where it touches the tile - but it is a great way to ensure it bakes perfectly flat and you can always do a second baking adding some clay to the back.

The second baking idea is interesting.  I bake on tiles and have this problem.  :)

Put a small piece of paper between the piece and the tile immediately before baking to stop those shiny marks on the back.

Yes, but don't let it sit on the paper for too long before baking as paper leeches the plastisizers out of the clay making it brittle and more prone to breaking.
