Been away for a little while. Working on bits and pieces and also feeling a little lack of energy or inspiration or something of the two.
Anyway, here is a clutch of things I've made over the last month or so.

The lovely Gillian Anderson from the BBC series "The Fall"
That HAIR though. It drove me insane.

I feel I only just captured her after many hours of umming and ahhing and being unsure.
I'd like think I caught something of her in the eyes, which a very important thing for me.

Jessica Walter as Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development (my favourite US sitcom, possibly even TV show in general)

Really great fun putting this one together. It was so enjoyable putting life in the expression. Probably one of my favourite pieces I've made for a while.

Kate Bush.
A funny story behind this one. I was wondering what I should make next, and the answer came to me in a dream.
I dreamt I was in the car with my mum as we were returning from somewhere, and she asked me "Have they seen your Kate Bush yet?" or something like that.
I woke up the next morning and knew that was what I should do.

Another rather challenging piece. Once again SO much hair.
I think it turned out rather nicely.

The brilliant actor Zawe Ashton.
Sculpted from brown tone Living Doll clay. A wonderful material to work with.

This one works rather tentatively I think. There are elements of it I'm happy with, but in terms of the likeness it feels a little soft? The two-toned quality is effective though I'd say. A nice simplicity to it.

Christel Dee. A Doctor Who vlogger and presenter.
I see this person a lot on Twitter and Youtube and thought she had a really fun and expressive character and so for a while I've played with the idea of sculpting her. I decided on giving her a David Tennant/10th Doctor costume as she also cosplays and if memory serves it was her cosplaying that helped bring her to the attention to the BBC.

I'm extremely happy with this piece. In fact I tweeted her a pic and she was very impressed with it.
She now owns the piece.

That's it for now, hope you like what I've been up to!

Wow!  What an incredible likeness, James - I should think she's rather chuffed!

So a couple months back I entered a competition calling for artwork for an illustrated guide to Doctor Who.
I chose the Patrick Troughton story "Power of the Daleks" from the mid-60's.
The deadline passed a while ago and sadly I didn't hear a peep, so I can assume it didn't make the grade.
I wanted something simple and striking. Perhaps it was too simple. Or not striking enough.

Anyway, here it is!

Hope you like it more than they did!

Heavens you have been busy! And such incredible work too. Love the idea of your inspiration coming from a dream on the Kate Bush one!

Emma

Been trying to keep myself busy. I had a dry patch where I couldn't get anything to work so I thought I'd push myself and explore different faces. That sort of thing. Very glad you like them! The Kate Bush was really exciting actually. I've never done anything fuelled by a dream before!

Something a little silly now.
I wanted to try sculpting Mark Gatiss (Mycroft from the BBC's "Sherlock"). I'd tried him many years ago with rather good success for the time, but now I felt it was time to try again and do a better job.
What's more I even had an idea for the piece.

Gatiss being a big Horror fan, I thought it would be fun to sculpt him in that vain (if you pardon the pun)

I call it "Kensington Gore".
I think it works rather well. The eyes capture him nicely imo.

Anyway, hope you like him!

I think Mark would love being portrayed so, great likeness as usual!
