Stuff I'm working on
« on: September 26, 2014, 04:03:18 PM »
Hello all, my name is James. And I sculpt. Hence the name.

Anywho, I've been meaning to post some stuff here recently but as is the way with life I've either not found time, or simply been too bone idle to do anything.

For anyone who's interested, I've posted a little biog thing in the Introduction part of the forum here: http://www.polyclay.co.uk/index.php/topic,1950.0.html
Its got some pics of what I do. Saves reposting them all here :)

So, here's something I'm cracking away on at the moment.

Its Peter Capaldi from the new series of Doctor Who grinning are rather questionable if not sinister grin.
I like it if my work has an almost creepy edge to it, so I imagine I'm in luck with this one!
He's made from a rough armature of newspaper and tinfoil and Super Sculpey sculpted over it.
It took about an hour or two to sculpt to where it is now.

Anyway, I hope you like it or in the least aren't unsettled too greatly by it. I shall update as I proceed.

Thanks for looking!

Great stuff! If you did that in an hour or two then you must have developed a good knowledge of facial muscle structure and the like over the years. Really nicely done. A darn site quicker than CG ;-)

My goodness!  He is creepy - but l recognised him straightaway.  I'm amazed that you can sculpt something so life-like - hmmm...almost! - at all, let alone so quickly  8)

Haha! Well he can be a nice fellow. Sometimes.
Thank you :D

I dunno, maybe? I think it just comes from practise. Without sounding pretentious, I just sculpt what I see. (That is a little pretentious I have to admit)
Thanks so much :)

Ha! Many thanks, I kind of want this sculpt to have a sinister edge to it.
I really like the middle ground in sculpture, where there's life in it, but not complete life. Not quite uncanny valley stuff, but not quite action figure quality.
I like things with life in them

James, you certainly have a talent, I am learning to sculpt, I think I have a long way to go! This is an excellent likeness of Peter, I hope to see the finished work in an interesting situation or diorama

Hi James I have been sculpting for.6 months now. I am a scfi model builder at heart mainly starships but I needed figures for a diorama for a build contest so I built some out of poly clay. I found that gave my model building an extra dimension, combining styrene and clay. So far I have sculpted 8 to 12 inch figures

Star Trek Borg
O Ren Ishi from Kill Bill
Xmen Storm
The Joker
All can be found in the sculpting threafs

I would be interested to hear what you rhink

A little preview of how this sculpture is coming along. Its essentially finished now and I'll be posting a couple more pictures later in the week.

Yes I am aiming for this to be somewhat unsettling.

Hope you like him!
