Question about varnishing
« on: December 18, 2011, 08:02:06 AM »
Forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place, I'm sure Emma will move this if needs be. :)

I would like to try varnishing a piece however (and this may sound like the dumbess question) do I still sand my pieces through 600 and 1200 grits first or do I just slap on the varnish?

I'm sure someone will be able to help.

carrie - nuts but not a nutter!!

Sanding first will give you a much nicer finish. It will also help the varnish stick to the clay well.

After sandjng be sure to rinse the clay well and let it dry Fully before varnishing. I wait several hours or just let the beads air dry overnight before varnishing
Do search the forum too though as we have had some good discussions about varnishing and you'll geg lots of tips
