The Feisty Barnacle vs The Mighty Sky Kraken
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:24:14 PM »
Hi folks. I've been working on a new project that has some Sculpey components so I thought it would be worth sharing.
The project is another Steampunky piece that tries to capture a battle between the Airship Feisty Barnacle and the mighty Sky Kraken it is hunting.
The Kraken and some assorted pieces on the Barnacle are Super Sculpey. The rest of the Barnacle is made of various materials such as wood, brass, plastic, fabric etc. There is still plenty of work to go, and I'll update as I go :)
Hope you enjoy it, please feel free to fire any questions my way :)

Thanks folks. Glad you like it :)
Peter, those figures are really cool, but unfortunately way too big. The Feisty Barnacle is about 30cm long so the crew will be little tiny guys :)
Here is the starting point for the crew, my other favourite material tinfoil!

A quick bit of fun... Not sculpture, but still probably belongs in this thread.
Artistic "workflow" ... spend hours on a sculptural piece and then use it as "concept art" for an hour's worth of pixel art :)

Very cool! and very retro

Many years ago, my brother and his mates were all into Amiga computers and they seemed to spend a lot of time making "demos" - which were small animated pieces of computer art and graphics that they would put onto floppy disc and share with other crews doing similar to out demo each other.

Your pixel art gave me a sudden flashback to those days. Although your piece is obviously far more sophisticated, it still gave me a flashback to those early computing days when there were only 8 colours you could use for computer graphics I think! Its the creativity and pixel style that I love

I grew up with exactly the same stuff. I had an Amiga and I know exactly the demo scene you are talking about. All of that was my introduction to computer animation.
I've spent many years making 3d and 2d art on and off computer :)

Glad to get you reminiscing... I love the 8bit retro art scene. :)

Snap. My first computer was a ZX81 too. 1kb of memory and any colour you wanted on screen as long as you wanted black or white ;)
I had the 16kb expansion pack... gave me quite the street cred among my nerdy group of friends :)
