Title: Sculpey/Living Doll etc Brown tone clay.
Post by: JamesTheSculptor on September 09, 2016, 08:32:05 PM
Hello all. I'm currently working on a gift for a friend. Its to be a bust of the Rat Pack.
I think its going rather well, however there is one point that is bothering me.
I can not find anywhere any brown tone Sculpey clay, it seems its disappeared.

I prefer using stuff like Super Sculpey and Sculpey Firm, other clays like FIMO etc have a tacky feel which gets in the way of sculpting fine detail and so isn't really an option for me.

Basically I'd like to know if anyone knows whats going on?
I remember seeing Super Sculpey Living Doll clay in brown tone years ago.
Was is discontinued? Why?

Are there any places still stocking it?
I've tried Amazon/eBay/Google and can't find a trace of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

Splendid, that might do the trick actually. Many thanks!
I was also just curious to know why it seems its been discontinued elsewhere, am I wrong in this?

Have you tried Cernit clays - they have a fantastic range of skin tone colours in the doll range as well as many great brown shades.

One of the best sculptors I know, Renata Jansen (and also an EJR Beads customer!), uses her own blend of Cernit and Fimo to create her work. So it might be that by mixing different clays you'll be able to get both the right colour and consistency?

Emma
PS, I'll be posting about Renata in a different thread, so check the forum for the post!

So I just want to say that the clay you suggested arrived this morning, and I'm cracking on with sculpting with it now.
It is wonderful, really wonderful. Perfect for me and how I work. Lovely and soft and malleable with no tackiness or resistance.

Great stuff, thanks one again!

I knew you guys could help!
