Title: Gallery - April
Post by: Fiona on March 31, 2011, 01:25:00 PM
Hi All,

I thought I'd be brave and post a few pics (first time ever for me on a forum) of some trinket boxes I made a while ago to start a gallery where everyone can post their lovelies.  I've called it April (well it nearly is) but obviously if people think it would be better to do a weekly or fortnightly gallery instead of monthly it can be changed.

So here they are...

Brilliant Fiona!

I think a monthly gallery would be fab. We must try and get one started in the beads/jewellery section too.

I love your trinket boxes. My eyes are going a bit boggly at the canes - they are mesmerising. I love the rainbow colours. The retro cane is very funky too. Love retro canes - they always make everything look so ubercool.

Thanks Emma, I got the tutorial for making boxes from one of your books.  I bought both when I first started making things again with clay and they're really good.  I would recommend them to other's out there.  Posting these pics makes me want to make a few more again.  ;D

Those boxes are gorgeous, Fiona.  The cane you've used in the second on is one of my favourite to make - I love that it gives such a cool effect, yet doesn't take forever to make  :D

Oooh these are fab boxes.  I have only ever made one treasure box (a commission) and it took for ever, so I really mean it when I say well done!  I love that rainbow swirly cane too! ;)

Well technically you could, since I haven't set any banned words yet.  ;)  But I would have to edit them out pretty quickly, and you would have to wash your mouth out with soap young lady!

Again Fiona, love the trinket boxes! Saw them on Craft Pimp too :)

I don't really do many sculpturey pieces but here is a piece I did for my boyfriend's sister:

Kayleigh, that is fantastic! I take my hat off to you - what a wonderful piece. Just goes to show the versatility of polymer clay too and that it isn't just for beads and jewellery.

How could you bare to give that piece away though? I think if I had made it, I would have had a hard time parting with it!

Well I'm not as big a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas as she is so it wasn't toooo hard to give it away, especially as I knew it would make her smile! But I must admit, I did show it off quite a bit, teehee.
And I do normally make beads and jewellery but it is fun to get away from beads sometimes. My next challenge is a wedding cake topper! Pressure much? :)

wow! Kayleigh these are fab ! just love them!

Thank you!! :D

That is wonderful Karen

I really struggle making necklaces with polyclay beads - never seem to come up with an idea of how to show them off best. But your design is really perfect - everything complements nicely, lots of interesting pattern and shape without being too overpowering - I just love it!

Thanks guys, Karen which pendants did you mean? I usually sand with wet and dry paper from 600 through to 1200, then buff on a piece of denim and finally a couple of coats of Klear with a 5 minute bake in the oven between each coat.

Karen I love your lace cane necklace.

They were Green cabouchons in your pics, have you used the new formula Klear? ive never tried it might have to do so, they do look lovely
Title: Re: Gallery - April
Post by: polynana on April 09, 2011, 10:23:21 PM
Ahh those ones were a commission for a friend and yes I used the same method to finish them. I don't know if it's the latest formula for Klear as I've had the bottle for about 3 years so probably not .  thank you :D
Title: Re: Gallery - April
Post by: ejralph on April 10, 2011, 11:42:06 AM
I think the latest formula of Klear has "Pledge" in the title. Can't quite remember. So, at 3 years old I think yours will be the old formulation as you say.

Has anyone used the new Klear for clay and can give a review?

You are pasting the BB code directly into the body of your message, where you type the words?

And you are not changing anything, missing any characters or got any spaces where there shouldn't be?

Try posting a message here with that code in place anyway, even if it just comes up as code rather than the piccy,  and maybe we can reverse engineer it and see what is going on

Katt - Love those hens and cats - they are brill!

Emma - I saw those Elissamum canes and thought the same thing! There's a chat at PCC on Saturday nights with Jean usually doing demo's and Elissa is often there - no probs!

I wont be able to do the Sat chat thing for a while now that I've got fairs going on, but I could always drop her a line if you like?

I haven't been to PCC for such a long while - and the last few times only a flying visit. Haven't had a chat there for yonks. Same with messenger - I had to just ditch my ID and start over, because I was yacking too much on it.

I can already see myself falling into the same pattern here - its just way more fun chatting to you all than doing any work  :o

Emma

I check into PCC every so often, and if I get a chance I like to take a peek at Jean's demo's on a Sat evening. But I although I still have messenger that's the only time I ever turn it on! I have facebook on more often - or have windows messenger instead of yahoo messenger going. Mainly so I can keep track of my daughter - facebook is a good place to find out what she's up to!

Anyway, I'm on my way out - have hospital check up this afternoon and now we are further from Poole I'm taking advantage and having a good look round the shops - need a few bits and bobs anyway - that's my excuse!

I've loved looking at everyone's work. Thought I'd attach a photo of my "rescued" fairy doors - they're very basic, but I think I'm on the right track!

Oh those are gorgeous!

I am so glad you managed to save them. They will look fab in the school, it's such a lovely idea.

Are you going to just install them and not say anything until the kids notice?
